Social & Community Responsibility

Social and Community Responsibility

At Interactive, we regard social and community responsibility as an extension of our "People and Relationship" culture. Our Investors in People status is a symbol of our commitment to our team. Our commitment to diversity and equal opportunities is also demonstrated by the diversity of our workforce including some 16 different nationalities with a wide range of ages, education and ethnic backgrounds.

As a successful and diverse company in the technology industry, located in one of the most deprived areas of the UK, we feel we have an obligation to do what we can to help people "bridge the digital divide" and to give back to the local community, through various activities.

In the past year, projects we have initiated or supported include:

Internet Community Centre in Bakau Low Basic School, Gambia

RHM in conjunction with Interactive Ideas and Gambian Enterprise have modernised the internet centre at Bakau Lower Basic School. During school hours the centre is used for the benefit of the pupils, but also benefits the wider community by trading as an internet cafe and providing low cost adult computer literacy classes.

PUSS in India (Palli Unnayan Seva Samiti)

Palli Unnayan Seva Samiti(PUSS) is a small voluntary organisation which since 1984 has been helping the poorer communities in a group of villages near Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Orissa, one of the poorest states of India. The charity runs an orphanage/free boarding school for the girl children of sex workers, lepers and itinerant labourers to allow them the hope of building a better life. More information - www.orissa.org.uk

Located near the offices of our associate company Interfinet in India (www.interfinet.com) we have organised visits to their offices for the older girls so they can meet and talk to local woman with professional careers and see the opportunities that education can provide. We have also provided educational software, equipped their dining hall so the children can eat sitting at a table rather than the floor and we are working with the charity to facilitate English, computer training and scholarships, so the older girls can establish themselves with careers when they leave.

Sponsored activities

Interactive regularly support sponsored events to encourage teambuilding and social responsibility among staff. In the last year, we have participated in a Snowdon mountain climb in aid of the British Heart Foundation and a sponsored fancy dress at the office for Red nose day.

Community support
We engage with local schools and institutes on a number of different levels from work experience, mentoring provision, project placements among others, to demystify aspects of the workplace and improve access for local communities. We regularly donate prizes to local schools and charities.
